CRIPS Strapped ‘n Strong is a documentary about the violent life of a gang from The Hague, the Crips. A group of Antilleans and Surinamese who are involved in armed robberies, drug trafficking and gangsta rap. The film portrays a culture of violence in an almost uncensored manner and also manages to penetrate the thoughts and feelings that lie behind the faces of the gangsters.
CRIPS Strapped ‘n Strong was developed by Revolver with the support of the Netherlands Film Fund and produced in collaboration with PVH Film. The film was selected for the IDFA Workshop, the realization supported by the Netherlands Film Fund, the Rotterdam Media Fund and the CoBO Fund. The film was shown in cinemas in the spring of 2009 and was broadcast by BNN in September 2009. The film was also selected for the Locarno Film Festival, the Netherlands Film Festival and IDFA, among others.
A documentary about the violent life of a Dutch gang in The Hague, The Crips. Formed after their LA examples, they make a living out of armed robbery, rip deals while they seek salvation in the making of rap music. The film shows their culture of violence, brotherhood and loyalty, but at the same time it reveals their wish and struggle to beat the crime with rhyme.
CRIPS Strapped ‘n Strong was developed by Revolver and realized in cooperation with PVH Film. The film was shown in theaters in the spring of 2009 and was aired by BNN in September 2009. The film was selected for, among others, the Film Festival Locarno, the Dutch Film Festival and IDFA.
