ARTE’s commissioning editor Michel Reilhac posted a great article (or actually its a transcription of a lecture he had at the Sources workshop) about transmedia storytelling and the impact on the industry, producers, training and ofcourse, broadcasters. A great read for anybody involved in filmmaking!

We have been working on the development of ‘Aqua Patrol’ for a while now, together with Anthony Alleyne as writer/director. So far, the project has been self-funded, including the initial sketches, bible and pilot script – available on request.
In this next phase, we want ‘Aqua Patrol’ to be developed as independently as possible. We need to produce the concept art, storyboard and first pilot episode without the kind of external funding that comes with restrictive strings attached. We are absolutely determined that this series’ unique message and integrity does not become diluted, It is also our wish to have the audience and fellow creatives give us valuable feedback and become closely involved in the development of the project.
‘Aqua Patrol’ will be an exciting, fun animated educational series focusing on the battle to save the world’s marine environment by five wayward young heroes. An eclectic group, drawn from all over the world, these teenagers are forced to put their differences aside and face this challenge under the tutorship of the mysterious, masked Max, a brilliant scientist and inventor, who is himself hiding a dark secret.
We decided to do a little experiment and open an account on Kickstarter, a website that facilitates crowd funding. So far, Kickstarter proved to be quite successful for a lot of projects, so lets give it a try! So go and visit the project page on Kickstarter and if you like the project, perhaps you want to donate a small amount and help spread the word?
Thanks!

Director Vanessa Marzaroli was one of 10 directors to work with Dr. Martens to create music videos celebrating the brand’s 50th anniversary.
The song is Cinematic Orchestra’s rendition of the cult classic, “Lilac Wine,” made popular in the early 90s by Jeff Buckley.
Using animated calligraphy, “Lilac Wine” works perfectely with the atmospheric and organic music of Cinematic Orchestra, In Motionographer, Vanessa Marzaroli said about “Lilac Wine”
“The idea for the video came to me right away. The music is moving and it really felt like some sort of a lover’s letter or testimonial to me. With that said, I wanted something that was hand written and full of beautiful flourishes. I’m very fond of typography and calligraphy, so through my research, I found Spencerian penmanship to be quite inspirational.
I actually have a much deeper connection with animation. In my heart, I treat each project like a piece of music. This worked well for “Lilac Wine”, and we really took the opportunity to do something that was compelling to us, something we’d love to create.”

They just don’t stop! Another great animated music video for Gorrilaz, this time with the new single ‘On Melancholy Hill’. The video is the sequel of the equally brilliant musicvideo ‘Stylo‘, which ended in the sea. Its there where this video starts, only this time without Bruce Willis.

Not sure why I overlooked this one in the last months, but still think its worth posting. Directing duo Warren & Nick (Rokkit) directing a beautiful video for the album’s first single, Follow Me Down, starring supermodel Liberty Ross. Though I am a bit missing a connection with the lyrics itself, it still has stunning, phographic visuals, great camerawork and very nice atmoshpere.
